Robert Chambliss Troxler
May 2, 1941 – March 11, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Chambliss Troxler, who passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025. Bob was a remarkable man whose career, integrity, and warmth touched many lives across the globe.

Born on May 2, 1941 in Richmond, Virginia, Bob grew up in a family shaped by service, global engagement, and a deep connection to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). His father, Colonel Paul D. Troxler, was a career Army officer and a graduate of VMI. Col. Troxler served in the Army Corps of Engineers and also worked in the private sector, taking on key engineering assignments that brought the family to places like Persia (now Iran), Libya, Greece and Pakistan. This international and adventurous upbringing introduced Bob to a global perspective that shaped his professional and personal life.

Bob graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Economics. He distinguished himself as a leader early on, serving as a Cadet Captain, commanding Alpha Company, and earning recognition as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Bob's connection to VMI ran deep — it was not just his alma mater but a cherished family tradition, with both his father and brother also graduating from the Institute.

Bob remained deeply involved with VMI throughout his life, serving on the Finance Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. He was one of three leaders of the Class of 1963’s 50th Reunion Campaign, which raised more than $20 million in gifts and commitments — a testament to his dedication to VMI and its legacy. Bob also served as a Trustee of the VMI Foundation from 2008 to 2015, providing oversight and helping to secure financial support for the Institute’s future.

Following his military service as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1968 — where he served in the Armored Corps and in Intelligence — Bob attended Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA in 1970. This launched a distinguished 36-year career with Citigroup, where he held key leadership roles across investment banking, asset management, and investor relations.

Bob's work took him across the globe, including senior positions in Frankfurt, Brussels, New York, London, and Geneva. From 1975 to 1978, he headed Citigroup’s Investor Relations Department, managing the bank’s relationships with institutional investors and analysts worldwide. He later led Citigroup’s investment management relationships with institutional clients, including sovereign wealth funds, and focused on wealth management for ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWI).

In 1996, Bob became Managing Director of Citigroup Private Bank in Geneva, where he led a team advising some of the world’s most influential clients on asset allocation, investment strategy, and portfolio management. After retiring from Citigroup in 2006, Bob became the President and Founding Partner of GlobalView Investments S.A. in Geneva, an independent wealth management firm focused on discretionary asset management for UHNWI private clients in Europe and the Middle East. Bob's leadership and strategic insight helped GlobalView Investments become a trusted name among private and institutional clients.

Bob lived a life filled with rich experiences and global perspectives. His work and personal life took him regularly around the world, visiting most every continent on multiple occasions. A devoted husband and father, Bob's greatest joy was his family. He was known for his warmth, humor, and wisdom — a guiding light to his children and grandchildren.

On June 7, 1969, Bob married Nancy Clark in Philadelphia. Nancy was the daughter of Brigadier General Allen F. Clark and Katherine Sauntry. Bob and Nancy shared a deep and loving partnership for over 50 years until Nancy’s passing on March 13, 2021. They loved to travel the world and explore new places together, building a lifetime of memories through their shared adventures.

One of Bob's greatest passions was cruising on his barge, Trox, in France. Over more than 30 years, he explored the French waterways with his family and friends, creating treasured memories while navigating through the beautiful canals and countryside. Cruising on Trox became not only a source of relaxation and adventure but also a cherished way to connect with those he loved most.

In addition to his professional achievements, Bob was passionate about supporting justice and human rights. He served on the advisory board of Civitas Maxima, an organization dedicated to representing victims of war crimes and crimes against humanity. His work with Civitas Maxima reflected his deep sense of justice and commitment to making the world a better place.

Bob is survived by his three sons, Peter, Christopher, and Michael; his loving daughters-in-law, Kara, Mia, and Lisa; his six grandchildren, Jackson, Robert, Emeline, Zoey, Lucy, and Alexander; and his sister, Anne Troxler Hoover. He is predeceased by his wife, Nancy Clark Troxler; his father, Paul Dexter Troxler; his mother, Leonora Chambliss Drewry Troxler; and his brother, Paul Drewry Troxler. He was fortunate to have spent time with his three sons in the days before his passing. His legacy of professionalism, kindness, and integrity will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Details will be shared once arrangements are finalized.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Civitas Maxima (https://civitas-maxima.org/donate/) or the Virginia Military Institute Foundation (https://www.vmialumni.org/why-give-support-the-corps/ways-to-give/) in Bob’s memory.
