Our family has been so sad since Papa passed, but in that sadness I have witnessed the inevitable joy of the love we shared with him. From the countless landmarks in his life's history (the old apartment in Astoria, the furniture store he managed in the Bronx, the nursing home in Glen Cove), everywhere you look has a little bit of Papa. He is in every lottery card and every piece of mail. We are so lucky to see him in these common things because he found something exciting in all of it. He smiled at everyone and had curiosity for everything. He asked tons of questions and danced every day, whether or not we heard the music. I love you, Papa. I'll see you wherever I can.

Our Papa. It's hard to put into words everything I want to say. Papa was so special. This man loved his family and life more than anything. Papa was always so proud of all of us and our biggest cheerleader. He was the most accepting man I've ever met, it didn't matter who you were, as long as you were kind he would be your best friend. One of his biggest passions was singing a dancing, he could sing and dance all day long. Papa loved loved loved animals and children. He was so compassionate towards the boy I babysit and towards my animals. Every time I would come over he would ask for them. I remember growing up he would come on the weekends with a bag full of treats and snacks and of course dog treats as well. He would pull up to our house blasting Spanish music and when he came out me and all of the kids on our block would dance with him outside of his car. Papa moved in with us five years ago. He loved living with us, so much so he was at first upset to go into a nursing home. Papa quickly realized that we would all still visit him and my mom did every single day he was there. My mom would bring him food and gifts and magazines and he grew to love it there. The nursing home had activities for them everyday, and of course Papas favorite was the live music. The people who worked there loved him. They worked with challenging patients, but they said that Papa was always smiling and he would brighten everybody's day. And this is true every time we would visit him he had a smile on his face. He was there for almost a year before he passed, and he was happy. Papa will be missed forever. We will keep him alive in our memories and stories. I love you Papa. The man, the myth, the legend❤️

For four years, I had the privilege of living with Papa. Some of my favorite memories were our adventures to get haircuts. I’d blast salsa music in the car, just like he used to do when he could drive himself, windows down and music loud. Papa was always smiling, always joking, always making someone’s day a little brighter. He loved talking about his time serving in the Army, especially when he was stationed in California. He’d share those stories with pride. At home, he was a man of routine. Every morning started the same — a cup of coffee and his oatmeal. Without fail, no matter what meal it was, half of it was going to the dog under the table. No matter how many times we told him to stop. When he wasn’t eating or telling stories, he was locked in on Family Feud. Hours and hours of it. He wasn’t too sure about Steve Harvey at first, but he eventually grew on him. Most of all, Papa loved his family. He was always asking about his kids, his grandkids, and making sure everyone was okay. And even when life wasn’t perfect, he showed me what it meant to stay positive. Right up until his last days, he was cracking jokes, smiling, and reminding all of us not to take life too seriously. I’m so grateful for every memory. Rest easy, Papa.

Nuestras más sinceras condolencias por la pérdida de Papo. Papo fue unos de mi tíos favoritos, siempre haciéndome reír con sus ocurrencias. Siempre recordaremos su alegría y sentido del humor, así como el cariño que demostraba hacia Mami (Aída) Q.E.P.D. Para Mami, Papo era como un hermano. Estamos seguro que ahora Papo se encuentra junto a Mami haciéndola reír. Sabemos que este es un momento difícil para la familia, y queremos que sepan que estamos aquí para apoyarlos en lo que necesiten. Con todo nuestro cariño y respeto, Sammy, Joviana, Anna y María

Que profunda tristeza sentimos todos. Papo fue una persona muy importante en nuestras vidas. Fue como un papá para mi y un abuelito para mis hijos. Como un hermano para Mami! Muchas memorias lindas…y que mucho nos REIAMOS. Que charlatan era. Un ser humano espectacular…noble, trabajador, integro, valiente, responsable, cariñoso y siempre feliz. Hoy el cielo está de fiesta. Los Marquez tienen party! Quería darle las gracias especialmente a Tania por cuidarlo con tanto amor… vivir con la familia le dio mucha felicidad. El era loco con todos sus nietos y adoraba a todos sus hijos. Un abrazote grande a Papito, Raquelin, Edgardo, Tania, a todos los nietos y esposos, y a la matriarca de la familia, Raquel. ¡Que Descanse en Paz nuestro querido Papo! Los queremos mucho. Papo fue un tio muy especial que siempre me brindo mucho amor y alegria. Hombre amigable, cariñoso y divertido. Siempre estuvo muy orgulloso de sus hijos y nietos. Papo ahora acompañas a mami en el Cielo y un buen baile se daran... Te extrañaremos mucho!!! Que descanses en Paz!!!
