Obituary of Mary Girardi

Girardi, Mary – on Aug. 1, 2025, age 89, of Oyster Bay, NY. Beloved wife of the late Alfred. Cherished mother of Alfred Charles (Christina) and Nicholas. Loving grandmother to August Alfred and Aemilia Lucia. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Oyster Bay and New York City.

The youngest of nine children, and the only girl, born to Francesco and Gulia Albergo (Pannebianco) of New York, Mary was a thoughtful and energetic homemaker, devout Roman Catholic and financially astute and disciplined businesswoman, passionately devoted to her family, including her husband of 55 years, her eight brothers and their families, her two boys, and her two grandchildren, whom she watched over so lovingly and was so very proud.

After nearly 90 years of travel and experiences in locales foreign and domestic, Mary was a charismatic raconteur, curious and interested in people and their stories, and never shy about telling her own. Blessed with a keen wit, she nonetheless was a warm-hearted, direct and unpretentious individual.

Mary loved making and eating good food. And her opinions, beliefs and practices in the kitchen presaged the contemporary emphasis on farm-to-table sourcing, fresh and organic ingredients and thoughtful preparation.

People who knew Mary best considered her a true original, whose eccentricities inspired admiration, appreciation and exasperation. Kind to strangers and generous to the poor, she was resourceful and creative, particularly in a pinch. Over the course of her life, Mary demonstrated time and again resolve and courage in the face of adversity, and unwavering commitment to those she loved.

Mary Girardi will be sorely missed but not forgotten.
