Obituary of Michael A. Patti

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael Anthony Patti, 89, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a life defined by devotion, loyalty, and a quiet strength that shaped everyone who knew him.

Born in Brooklyn on September 1, 1936, Michael carried those roots with him throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal brother, and an adored uncle. Above all else, family was his world. Michael was not a man of many words, but his actions spoke volumes. He showed his love through his work ethic, his dependability, and his unwavering presence for those he cared about.

Michael proudly served in the United States Army.Upon returning home, he channeled his discipline and determination into building a distinguished career as a construction entrepreneur. Together with his father, Ignatius (“Ernie”) Patti, and his brother, Nick Patti Sr., he founded Patti and Sons, a company that would leave an indelible mark on New York City’s skyline. Later joined by his nephew, Nick Patti Jr., the family business undertook numerous landmark projects of which Michael was especially proud, including the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site, Citi Field, the Goldman Sachs headquarters, Hudson Yards, and 270 Park Avenue. These achievements stood as a testament to Michael’s unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and craftsmanship.

Beyond the job site, Michael dedicated himself to the welfare of others as a trustee of Local 262. He was deeply respected—not only for his extensive knowledge and expertise, but also for his fairness, generosity, and genuine willingness to lend a hand whenever someone was in need.

In addition to his accomplishments in construction, Michael co-founded Northeastern Aviation Company alongside his dear friend Michael Russo, further demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and passion for new ventures.

Some of Michael’s happiest moments were spent on the golf course. Regarded by his peers as one of the best golfers around—and certainly one of the most fun to play with—he earned the nickname “The Iceman” for his uncanny ability to sink clutch putts. Golf brought him true joy and lifelong friendships.

Michael was a devoted husband to his wife, Susan Patti, and a loving father to Mara Patti and Michael Patti. He was a proud brother to Nick Patti, Ernie Patti, and sister Marie Lombardi, and brother Anthony, who predeceased him. He was also a cherished uncle to Ernie, Maria, Nick Jr., Sondra, Keith, Ryan, and Matthew. He was also a loving brother-in-law to Sophia, James, Ellen, Kenneth, and Dorothea.

Michael’s love for sports was endless. He was the ninth all-time season ticket holder of the New York Islanders and remains one today. He was also a loyal Mets fan and a passionate golfer. He treasured his daily routines—following his teams and spending time with the people he loved most. His warm smile, steady presence, and fierce loyalty will be missed more than words can express.
