Shirley Ann Turney, 78, of Bethpage, New York, and former resident of Oyster Bay, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving son, granddaughter, and sister. She was born on October 11, 1947, in Chinquapin, North Carolina, to the late David and Emily Devone. Shirley attended Georgetown High School in North Carolina before moving to Oyster Bay, New York, in 1968, where she made her home and became a cherished member of the community.

Shirley worked for over 40 years as a meat wrapper and was a proud and dedicated union member. She served as an active member and shop steward of Local 342-50, where she was known for her strong work ethic, commitment, and feisty spirit. Alongside her dear friends—the “Golden Girls,” Kathy Maerz, Jeanie Gaimaro, and the late Mary Anderson— Shirley looked forward to participating in annual breast cancer fundraisers through her union for the American Cancer Society, earning awards year after year for their outstanding fundraising efforts.

A talented solo songstress for many years, Shirley entertained audiences at local establishments, sharing her love of music and her powerful voice. She especially cherished spending time with Nicole and Tina, moments that brought her great joy. Shirley will be remembered for her strength, loyalty, generosity, and devotion to her family and community. She took great pride in caring for those she loved and built lasting relationships throughout her life.

She is survived by her beloved son, Anthony Turney; her cherished grandchildren, Nicole Turney, Tony Douglas, and Terrance Turney; her adored great-grandchildren, Leah, Ava, Ezra, Elijah, Isaac, Joanna, and Hezekiah Douglas; and her devoted siblings, David Devone and Tina Devone.

The wake will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Oyster Bay Funeral  Home, 261 South Street, Oyster Bay, NY 11771. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 163 South Street, Oyster Bay, NY 11771.
