My sympathy to the friends and relatives of Daniel who I never met and for obvious reasons, the awful circumstances are kept quiet about how he died abroad, etc. Patriotism is a loose term these days but Daniel chose a path to serve our country abroad from terrorists, criminals and maybe even helped limit human trafficking. All of you who knew him were blessed so hold on to every good anecdote of time together. It makes no sense to be that young so raise a glass on July 4 to his spirit....

I knew Dan as an ARSO at Paramaribo embassy. We became friends through work especially after we went together at a San Salvador training. I was impressed how he planned our only weekend with a trip following the flowers and in the end to the volcanoes. He loved the nature I was sad to hear that he passed away. May GOD give his family and friends the strength to overcome.

Daniel wasn't just my best friend. He was family. He was a brother to me and my sister and the “other son" to my parents. For 40 years, he was part of every chapter of my life, from my earliest memories to the person I became. We met in nursery school - the only school we ever attended together - and formed a bond that became a brotherhood. He was effortlessly cool, endlessly curious and the most kind, caring, hilarious and thoughtful person I have ever known. My deepest and sincere condolences go out to Mr. Riva, Peter and all who knew and loved Dan.

I had the honor of serving with Dan during our time in Timor-Leste, where we shared a passion for diving and anything involving the ocean. Dan lived life to the fullest, often exploring the island on his motorbike and embracing every adventure. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and brought warmth and generosity wherever he went. He will be deeply missed.

I met Daniel in 2023, and from that moment on we shared a relationship filled with love, warmth, and happiness until his very last day.
I’m so grateful and incredibly lucky to have known him as my partner, my best friend, and my biggest source of support. The world deserves to know how kind, gentle, and loving he was. He had such a kind heart, a thoughtful and brilliant mind, and a presence that made everything around him feel a little lighter and every challenge seem possible.
It was truly an honor to be one of the people you loved, Daniel. I will always carry that with me, and I will always be thankful that our paths crossed.
To Daniel’s family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Daniel meant the world to me, and I will forever cherish the time we shared together. My heart is with the family during this incredibly difficult time. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
With love,
Mima

We served together. We traveled together through 12 countries. We listened to the Beatles, read National Geographic magazines and classic novels, and shared food, culture, and celebrations along the way.
Dan, you live on in our memories now.
To his family, thank you for sharing him with us. He was a great friend whose kindness, curiosity, and spirit touched many lives. I feel fortunate to have known him, and I will always cherish the memories we made together.
