Obituary of Anthony Barrett
Anthony Francis "Tony" Barrett left us on July 22nd, far too soon. He was a very loved husband, son, brother and uncle, leaving behind his wife Zohra, father Frank, and brothers Chris, Mark and John and their families. He also had extended family and a circle of friends and colleagues who will miss him dearly.
Tony had a strong work ethic, starting from his teen years working after school through owning/running a repair shop and gas station, managing a chain of Midas shops from Connecticut to Pennsylvania, and finally to Con Edison. He treated everyone as a friend and went above and beyond to make sure things were done and done right.
Tony would have preferred to be racing at any time, but also loved his NY Rangers, the Mets and (sometimes) the Jets. He spent the last 24 years working for Con Ed in different roles, but always ones that helped people - from ensuring that vehicles were available and working properly on the Transportation team, to working with the Emergency Support & Logistics teams to provide generators and emergency response, to going on mutual aid trips from Puerto Rico to the Canadian border.
At home, he was a thoughtful, caring husband who loved his cats (who adored him too). At the race track, he was happiest racing NHRA and .90 and (finally) winning his Wally; great times were spent with other racers between rounds, having a good meal together, and in the off season getting together or bench racing with them. He loved music ranging from The Who to Joan Jett to KC & the Sunshine Band and more - going to many shows through the years starting with CBGB roadie-ing for a friend. Away from home meant cruising at every opportunity, throughout the Caribbean and then through Europe, or trips to celebrate family occasions locally.
Tony was a very good man and will be missed by all who knew him.
