Dear Victoria and family,
I was surprised and sorry to read of Jane's death. The obituary in the Times, of necessity I suppose, left out so many of those things that were so memorable and impressive about her: her kindness, her easy-going charm, the pleasure she took in being a (truly gifted) hostess, her devastating way with a floral arrangement, her willingness to laugh, her uncomplaining cheer. She was such a. . . .well,. . a lady, in the old and best sense of the word. And she was as proud of you as you were of her.
Although we hadn't seen each other in too long, we did talk on the phone, and I'll miss Jane, as I know you and your brother and sister will. Sadly, memories don't compensate, but they help to soften our loss.
I wish you all my very best.
I will continue to think of our beloved Jane every day for awhile and will never forget our long and wonderful friendship. Love to you all!!
