I knew Sue when she brought her brother Bruce to live at the Sigma Nu fraternity house at the University of Maryland in August 1976. God bless her memory.

I knew Sue for a period of time in 1976. I cherish memories of our time together as close friends. Her beloved brother was a fraternity brother of mine in Sigma Nu at the University of Maryland. I also cherish memories of Bruce Petersen who passed in 2013. I also send my thoughts and prayers to Sue and Bruce’s wonderful mother Hazel. Sue was such an accomplished leader and role model I pray to her for inspiration and guidance.

I was so saddened when I found out Sue had passed. I have very fond memories of her walking the deck of the Wantagh Park Pool; coaching, consoling, cheering us on, and handing out medals and trophies.
I started competitive swimming at age six. Sue, “Coach or Susie”, as we called her, was my very first summer coach, She continued to coach our team for years. She gave so much of her own time, helping us to become better swimmers, but more importantly to develop into good human beings. Especially in light of the fact that she was still in the prime of her competitive career. I’m not ashamed to say she was my very first crush, not because she was beautiful, but rather because she was my inspiration to make something of myself.
A great lady. One who left the world a better place. She left us way too early.

I didn't know her well. I attended the meet the candidates night for the upcoming LV School Board when she first ran for the position. She impressed me so much with her knowledge, poise, experience, confidence, and passion that I left there knowing my vote for her would be well cast. I am so sorry for your family"s loss and for ours. She truly was a remarkable woman and person. Respectfully ~Coleen Morgan~

May the pink and white petals of the Crepe Myrtle trees from The Academy line your pathway to heaven. May you be met at the gates by a bridge of your warriors welcoming you home to heaven. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Susan, you were a great and loving friend. A force of nature that I just loved going through life's adventures with from 8 yrs old to now. I will always think of you with a smile and know that you are at peace with your Dad, Bruce and all of the great athletes that have gone before you. Heaven will be so organized when I get there because you have been and always will be a force to respect and love. Rest peacefully, my dear friend.

Sue was a life long friend. From 8 and under swim meets to our conversations and laughter to this day. We were rivals in the pool but great friends through life. Sue has accomplished many great things in life, but her greatest legacy was her love, honor and loyalty to her family and friends. Sue was there for her Mom and Dad, Bruce and most of all, dear Sarah. She wanted Sarah more then anything in the world. My heart breaks that she has left us so soon. To the Petersen/Lubow family, we will remember Sue with laughter, love and gratitude. That she and I journeyed this life adventure at the same time in history was my gift. Sarah, your Mom was one of a kind and worshiped you from way before you were born. She wanted you more then her next breath of air. Hazel, I am here for you. My heart breaks for you. Please let me help you as you try to take your next steps. Love to you all.

I will always fondly remember Sue for helping me to get acceptance at the Merchant Marine Academy and for the four years as my coach. Her understanding and support was an important factor in my being able to make it through Plebe Year. A true mentor and friend to all midshipmen; I am glad to have been able to spend a few moments with her at last years Homecoming. Rest in Peace and Love. PH KP'84

My heart aches today as I learn of the passing of Miss Petie. That's how she was known by me and the rest of the G.W. Hewlett High School Girls Swim Team way back when. She was a fantastic Coach, mentor, and friend to all of us who had the pleasure to swim for her, and we all loved her! I am thinking of you, her family, as you lay her to rest, and am sending love & prayers.
RIP, Miss Petie...thank you for everything you taught me!
With sympathy,
Maria L Nephew
