I did not know Mary Ann had lost her battle and passed away. I decided to write her a letter since I had not heard from her and could not reach her on her cell phone or via email. When I turned on the computer to confirm her address that is where I saw her obituary, I was shocked. I knew that day was coming and thought when it did one of her family members might have gone through her papers and contacted me. We met in the early 1960's when we worked together at Celanese Corp. We kept in touch throughout the years even after she stopped working to raise her two daughters. I have moved from Brooklyn to Raleigh, North Carolina and have gotten together with Mary Ann over the past 12 years to enjoy a meal and visit with each other. She kept me up to date with her medical problems in many telephone conversations and she was always on my mind and in my prayers.
On New Year's Eve she called to advise me of the results of her latest tests and procedures. I learned there was nothing else to do and that her time was limited. I could not stop thinking of Mary Ann. Every day I would stop and remember what she was going through. I would pray continuously that God would make her transition easy and remove her pain. I knew the time was short but did not expect her fight to end within the month. Many memories of the past 50+ years will always remind me of her.
Over many years Mary Ann was faced with many health scares and many tests and procedures. She remained strong and kept hoping she would heal. Even though she was a small person she was very strong always doing what had to be done in the hope that she would heal. Her greatest loves, her two daughters, were her motivation to heal. From the day they were born she would do anything for them. She kept fighting through all health bouts so she could get back on her feet and be there for her girls.
I thank God she was given the years she had to be with her loved ones. I pray she is now at rest. She was indeed a valiant fighter but I guess God decided it was best for her to return to His kingdom.
Rest in peace dear friend, free of pain and suffering. You deserve that. You will be missed by many who knew and loved you. With much love always. Carol Poulos

My daughters and son were so saddened to hear of your loss. They all remember your Mom fondly from school and Vanessa and I especially from our Girl Scout adventures. She was such a strong and kind lady, a real privilege to know and spend time with. Kristin will miss eating her at the nail salon. You are all in our prayers.

At our 50th high school reunion she greater me with "Donnie, it's great to ...". That is what she called me in kindergarten or first grade at Betty Ann's birthday's party. For over 65 years I have known her, so gentle she left nice memories for us.
