Obituary of Carol J. Curran
CURRAN – Carol Jean Curran (nee Munkelt), 84, long-time resident of Baldwin, NY passed away peacefully on May 5th surrounded by her loving family. Carol was the middle daughter of Robert and Helen Munkelt. She was raised in Freeport, NY before attending Adelphi University, where she graduated in 3 years with high honors. After raising her 5 children, Carol returned to Adelphi and earned a masters of education degree. Carol went on to become a dedicated and respected special education teacher in the Baldwin from 1981 until she retired in 1996. Upon retirement, Carol and her husband moved to Pinehurst, NC where she enjoyed cooking, entertaining family and friends and volunteering her time at numerous local charities. She was the co-founder of Sacred Heart Preschool program in Pinehurst, where she also worked part time. In addition, Carol began her own successful business – designing and crafting custom Christening dresses that she sold to specialty boutiques throughout the East Coast. Carol was predeceased by her old sister Joan Wilson and is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Robert, Garden City, NY and her younger sister Paula (Hank) Nowick of Springfield, MA; her children Robert (Jo) of Honolulu, HI; Suzanne (Todd) Esposito of Garden City, NY; Jamie (Tiffany) of Virginia Beach, Va; Jerry of St. Petersburg, FL; Tim (Jennifer) of Memphis, TN, as well as twelve grandchildren and one great grandson. Memorial Visitation Park Funeral Chapels, Garden City Park, NY Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Memorial Mass St. Joseph's RC Church, Garden City, NY Monday 10:00 a.m. Interment is private.
