We are so very sorry to here of Mike's passing. Mike was our son Philip's first football coach at only 5 years old. He was a strict, but great coach who taught the kids discipline at a very young age. We still speak of his way of coaching and how we feel it set the tone for his future. Thanks Coach Mike, may you rest in peace. Our prayers go out to Mike's family at this very difficult time.

I will miss our conversations about your family and how proud you were of them. Thank you for offering my Son his first employment opportunity and for always asking how my children and family were doing when I was at the Car Wash. I admired your work ethic and humbleness.
You will be missed in Northport and have left a handprint on our hearts.
God bless and rest in peace,
Lou, Mary, Louis & Remi Copertino

Growing up, I played football for close to a decade with Mike as my coach. Knowing him as "Coach Mike," he appeared to be the crazy guy always pushing us to our limit at such a young age. As I grew up, I came to appreciate the work ethic and mental toughness he instilled in everyone on the team as just children. I cannot speak for everyone but I know that for myself, these lessons carried over into not only my athletic career, but as a student and a person as well. The world has lost a great man. Rest in Peace Coach Mike.

I grew up with Mike as a football coach. I started playing when I was 6 years old and he was my first coach in a new sport to me. Now I’m 21 and playing football in college. Mike had an enormous influence on my football career as he helped shape my young mind to fall in love with the game. Although he often appeared as a crazy coach and would often yell at us and make us run, he truly cared for us as he devoted his time to coaching us. His unique coaching style has helped me survive some of my crazier coaches and there were times along the way where I thought about quitting football. If it weren’t for my experiences with Mike as a kid I may have just rolled over and quit. He taught us all many valuable lessons such as the importance of hard work at an age where we really didn’t appreciate it and thought we were being punished. I can truthfully say that Mike helped mold me into the man I am today. I will never forgot those Bethpage Eagles teams with Coach Mike and the endless memories he gave us. My condolences and May he Rest In Peace.

We are so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I had the pleasure of coaching football with him for 5 years. I have such great memories of those times. I'm always telling others of some of his 'unconventional' half-time speeches. Brings a smile to my face. Our prayers and sympathy go out to Nicole, Michael, Bryce, Hunter, and Madison. May Peace find you during this difficult time.

Mike,
I cannot believe that you are gone. It feels like yesterday that I was fighting with you on the phone to cancel football practice because it was 39 degrees out and raining . You always had the best lines and to this day my family uses them.
