Obituary of John M. McGuire

McGuire, John (Jack) M. – on Oct. 4, 2018, age 89, of Melville, NY, formerly of Manchester, NJ and Greenlawn, NY. Loving brother of Madelyn Ryan -deceased. Beloved father of Jeanmarie McGuire-Scanapico (Raymond), and Patricia Kaplan (Dr. Jerry Kaplan). Loving grandfather of Matthew Scanapico, Courtney Scanapico, Jacqueline Scanapico, Alanna Kaplan, Brian Kaplan, and Patrick Kaplan. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Graduated with a B.S. from University of Notre Dame and a M.B.A. from New York University. Jack served the US Army as an investigator for the CIC (Counter Intelligence). He received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked for the New York Telephone Company for over 30 years. His dedication and penchant for learning served him well throughout his time at NYT. He progressed from traffic operator and ended his career in upper management as a Revenue Forecaster. Upon retirement Jack became an EMT and volunteered for several years with the Manchester First Aid and Rescue Squad.He also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for the New Jersey Superior Court. Never one to sit still he filled his remaining time joining 2 softball teams, played tennis several times a week and joined a bowling league. True to the Notre Dame mantra ‘Play like a Champion Today’ his team won several first prizes! He also found time to travel, work with Habitat for Humanity and man a suicide hotline.
