I worked for him in the early 80's. He was a good man.

My high school memories of Joe are some of my most treasured. Though we had little contact through the years, I thought of him often. He was truly one of a kind.
"Some people come into our lives and quickly go,
Others leave footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same."
Flavia
"And when the earth has claimed your limbs, then shall you truly dance."
Kahlil Gibran
To his family and loved ones I hope you find peace in knowing that your life was blessed by having Joe be with you for 81 years.
Love and blessings to you all,
Lucille Livolsi Waterson

The Barclay family Christmases were always intertwined with the Principes and Santoras at Aunt Marges and Uncle Nicks in Oyster Bay. Joey's achievements always set the bar for success from undergraduate to graduate to his long distinguished law career. It was neat to have a family star linked to both George Harrison and Julie Andrews. We always knew Christmas day was winding down to look over at Uncle Joe, Uncle Don, Uncle Nick, my dad and Joey taking a post dinner nap. May Joey's eternal rest allow him the painless comfort and peace that he always seemed to obtain on those Christmas days.

Condolences to the family. Just a sad day and what a kind-hearted, positive and friendly man I had the pleasure of knowing. He will be missed greatly and I truly am saddened to hear he has left us. Prayers for the family, the children and Grandchildren.

I have known Joe Santora since 1972. We practiced law together for about 20 years. He was an accomplished litigator who handled many significant cases in both federal and state court. I also got to know his dear wife Doris. My wife Eva and I socialized with Joe and Doris on many occasions, even following Joe’s retirement from the law. Although stricken with multiple sclerosis in 1983, His grit and determination, along with loving care by his family and by his caretaker and friend, Pansy, enabled him to live to the age of 81, surprising many people. Despite our political differences, Joe and I had great fondness for each other. I, along with many others, will miss him.

I have known Joe since my first year at Ohio U and my fiirst year as his brother in SAE. It has been an honor and privilege to call Santo a brother and friend. He was special in so many ways - bright, empathic, brave, creative - the list goes on. Were it not for Santo's creative ways almost my entire pledge class would have been expelled - he knew we were good men - even if a little naive. He saved many good men. I also had the privilege of spending the day with him celebrating his acceptance to Harvard Law - exciting.
Rest well my brother - the world is a better place for your having better. Your rest is well deserved

Many fond memories of Santo going back to Bush Hall, OU, 1957, his Freshman year, . He was a little "green behind the ears" that year, but a hell of a classmate, teammate, and friend. Well done, Joseph.
Dori and family, I'm sorry for your loss.

Dear Doris and Jacqueline,
I have known Joe since Harvard Law School days in 1963 and was present when he helped take down Sheldon Silver.. A great and longtime friend. We had spirited email and personal conversations about politics, prosecutors(I was one too) and our contrary but always friendly positions. I will miss him and our often annual visits with David Fuller to his home in Manhattan.....Sincerely, Arthur Hirsch (I didnt see my name on his updated list)..

So many many good memories of a kind, generous, gentle, and sharp as a tack man! Here is literally my first encounter with Joe: At the age of almost 21, I went to work as a secretary in Joe's department (poor and supporting myself). Less than 3 months later, my Mom passed. She lived out of town and I had to take 3 days off despite the fact that I hadn't earned any paid time off. I came back Monday morning and Joe walked right up to me and said, "What are you doing here? You go home young lady you need to grieve. Do not worry, you will be paid." The kindest gesture for someone he did not know. Needless to say, he had my loyalty forever and we worked on and off for years until he stopped working. Doris, Jacqueline, you two were his life! I am so sorry for your loss. Sandi Necco-Leffler

As a new pledge to the SAE fraternity, Santo took me to the liquor store where he suggested I buy a bottle of Sherry as he was so that we had something good to drink at the party we were going to attend. He never told me not to drink the entire bottle. We have remained good friends up to and including this day.
