When Tony and his wonderful wife Janice welcomed me into their huge, warm family on Thanksgiving Day 2004, I immediately liked them and felt comfortable. Tony and Janice had the gift of making everyone feel as though they were at home.
Tony was one of a kind, a true Italian-American original. He combined the best of his childhood in Italy with a fearless sense of discovery in post-WWII New York City. Self-sufficient as a teenager, he chose the path of independence and became a self-made man who was hugely successful in his business enterprises and his relationships with people.
Never more content than when surrounded by family and friends, Tony enjoyed excellent wines and the bounty of Janice’s fabulous cooking and baking skills. He drank in the sweetness of life as often as possible, completely happy to be happy. To sit at their table for coffee and biscotti or a full-blown holiday meal was pure pleasure.
As a firm but loving father to Michael, Anthony and Valerie, Tony welcomed Janice’s daughter Janine into the family, and then two daughters-in-law and two sons-in-law. A dedicated grandfather of 10, he was also a loyal brother to four, uncle and cousin to many and a stand-up friend to everyone: governor, dockworker, hoodlum, neighbor.
Proud of his heritage and keeper of tradition, he was also a hard-working, tax-paying, live-in-the-moment American. Blessed with a great appreciation of the absurd, he possessed a self-deprecating wit, an uncanny ability to communicate with all types of people and a deep well of common sense and decency. He would have made a terrific priest, except that he was a bit of a rogue. More than anything else, he loved being married to Janice and being a dad. La familia always came first.
Tony was a great listener, a kind and caring friend who was compassionate with others as well as passionate in his beliefs. He reveled in the rewards of hard work but knew how important it was to play, whether it was games in the back yard with his grandkids or a good session of tennis. He loved dogs, especially their little constant companion Rusty. And always, there was that killer sense of humor, that twinkle in his eye, his ability to get the joke behind the joke. I miss his smile, his honesty and his gentle demeanor.
Here’s to Tony, with great admiration and love always,
Sandi

Stephanie, Alexa, and I are greatly saddened by the loss of my baptismal godfather, Uncle Tony. We have such fond memories of him from family gatherings at holidays, weddings, christenings, and confirmations. He always opened his home to us when we were in town and took such an interest in our lives by calling frequently to check in to see how we were doing and offer advice. I will never forget him doing the tarantella at our wedding! In addition, I still have memories of him from my childhood playing at his house in Oceanside, at the beach, and on ski trips. Uncle Tony was a lively, fun-loving person who knew how to enjoy people. I will never forget how he expressed how proud he was of me when I got married and moved into my new house and when I had a child of my own. He was an inspiration as a father with his three children and as a husband to Janice who he had such a beautiful relationship with. He will be missed but remembered and cherished forever.

Dear Mike, Anthony and Val and Janice,
Uncle Tony....There was no one like him. He was unique on so many levels. He had very little formal education but was wise beyond his years. He gave me a lot of advice that turned out to be true. I’m sure he gave all of you advice too.
He had so many qualities that made him unique. He was a listener. He cared about what you had to say. He made you feel important.
He got it done. I remember him behind the bar 50 years ago when he gave parties at his house in Oceanside. I remember how he worked so well with Janice to run a gathering at their beautiful house in Oyster Bay Cove. If you wanted something done, you could count on Uncle Tony.
He was a sportsman. I remember playing tennis with him in Oceanside and at Malibu. My brother Matt reminded me that the reason we even knew about Malibu was because uncle Tony found out about it told my father. I remember skiing with him in Killington in the 70’s when it was so cold we had icicles on our eyebrows. And we laughed.
He was a leader who commanded respect. I don’t know about EF Hutton, but when Uncle Tony talked, people
listened. I tell my daughter all the time, “we would never do that in front of uncle Tony;” “we would never say that in front
of uncle Tony.” I bring him up so often my daughter says, “I know, I know, Uncle Tony wouldn’t allow that.” Uncle Tony was a great father. He went through a rough divorce and came out of it a better man. He raised three beautiful, kind and successful children while working full-time. Uncle Tony could multi-task.
He was a great husband. He got remarried to Janice who made him into an even better person. He and Janice had a
great marriage. They worked so well together. They were always in sync. They truly loved each other.
Uncle Tony never sat still. He adapted; he changed; he grew.
There will never be another Uncle Tony. He touched so many lives. He was a great man. I loved him and I already miss him.

We are at Peace knowing you are now in Heaven, after a long illness. Tony was a devoted Father who raised 3 beautiful and intelligent children, while running a successful hair salon in Garden City. All his staff and clients always spoke very highly of him. Our children enjoyed many summers together at Malibu beach club. We shall always have fond memories of the parties and holidays which Tony and Janice graciously hosted at their home. We will miss you very much. Rest in Peace.
