I was sadened when I heard of his passing. I worked with and reported to Joe while I was at Photocicrcuits at about 1969 . He and I played a lot of Backgammon and I considered him a true friend. RIP Joe and I hope your backgammon improves.

I met Joe as a gamer at many Face-To-Face tournaments. As the old-timers in the group, he used to greet me with "Fandil, you made it another year." And I would reciprocate with "Papa Bear, you too!" He was such a fine fellow and a gentleman. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to all his family and friends.

I met Joe from playing Duelmasters. He was a fantastic player and a much better person. He will be sorely missed by everyone. Rest in peace Papa Bear.
It was an honor to speak with Shirley and her wonderful daughters today at the service. I hope I was able to at least explain Joe's hobby a little bit and how important his place was in it. Thank you.

My condolances to Joe's family and was very saddened to hear of his passing. I met Joe back in the early 90's playing Duelmasters and enjoyed talking with him at the many F2F tournaments we both attended. I was always amazed that I found an avid gamer older than myself, but it was cool, nonetheless. I pray Joe is in everyone's thoughts and well wishes.

Having met you Shirley in Madrid as a student, it was such a joy to me when Joe brought you to London for a holiday, and you had a lovely boat trip down the Thames. I felt even more honoured when you came to my home in Tonbridge, Kent and we spent that lovely day together at Chartwell, Winston Churchill’s home. Holding you all in prayer in the next few weeks and sending fondest love from Alison and all of the Goff family in England. X x

I knew Joe through his play-by-mail hobby and the face-to-face tournaments that he would attend. He was a fierce competitor and it was a joy to have him as part of the community for so long.
Papa Bear will be missed.

Love to all the Freni´s during these rough times. May you find peace in the coming weeks and months knowing Uncle Joe impacted so many lives. He was a great Husband, Father, Uncle, & Friend. I count him as one of my earliest influences and a very supportive and positive influence as I headed off to college. If a chicken and a half... RIP Uncle Joe.
