We extend our deepest condolences regarding the passing on Uncle John. Thank you for posting the beautiful tribute about Uncle John's life that highlighted his love of family, fine career, and generous community service. Uncle John will be deeply missed among his family and friends. We take solace in the thought that he'll be reunited with Aunt Kathleen and with our parents Walter and Maureen. They truly enjoyed each other's company and were all good friends.
John and the his entire family remain in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless him always and may he rest in peace.
Warmest regards,
The families of Eileen, Walter and Robert Van der Waag

One of the best and most funniest man I ever knew. He had to be first to hold my daughter when we brought her home. He was so funny that day not letting Kathleen get to her first. This picture has hung on my Refrigerator for 24yrs.

When my wife Karen and I moved into the Connemara, John made us feel right at home. I loved the friendship he offered us and the times we spent together at the afternoon socials as well as catching some spring training baseball. John made our lives richer for having known him. Rest in peace my friend.

John was loved by many at the Connemara where we were neighbors. We could always count on John being ready for our social time at 4:30 every day. We would all gather and enjoy his company. John will be missed, but I know he will be so happy to be reunited with his wife.

Uncle John was a great influence on my life. I will never forget him and grandma surprising me when I was a little kid at the Cantiague Park ice rink pro shop, buying my first set of Hockey equipment and telling me to skate when I was crying and wanted to give up.
Tina and I are forever grateful for he and Aunt Kathleen taking my grandparents into their home in their golden years. It was very hard, and they both did an amazing job.
My uncle was tough (Golden Gloves) and expected us to be as well. A heck of a pool player too. He will be missed but never forgotten.
I love you Uncle John.
Your Godson Chris and family.

I had the privilege to be a close friend of John and sharing in our losses together. We talked about numerous things and always said life is too short. He joked about having so many children but loved all of them equally. He had a passion for music and listening to music. Rocket Man was among one of his favorites. He also enjoyed Broadway shows classical music. We spent many wonderful times going on cruises seeing different sights and enjoying the ocean. His passion for the ocean gave him peace. I will always remember him as he cared for many people and me. We would call each other to talk and make sure we got home safe after going out to dinner or any social event. It was comforting to know he was always there for me. We laughed and shed a tear
understood what is was like to be alone. I will miss him dearly. My deepest sympathy to the family and know Gods love will unite us at this sorrowful time.

My love for you all as you deal with your loss.
My fondest memory of Uncle John was when I was in the Navy on Submarines … I received a call from him asking if he could help me with my current situation…. I was amazed that he was able to get me and on top of that he had XO come and get me. (Lol)
May God Bless you all
Love
Cousin Robert
