Sheena was my chairperson and friend for over forty years.
She led the English department with great skill. She ended her only sabbatical early because the department was threatened with an additional course—which she saved us from getting.
She handled all her responsibilities as chairperson, including working out everyone’s teaching schedule each semester, with ease and savvy.
One memory:
As I ran into Sheena somewhere on campus, I casually said, “See you tomorrow.”
“Not tomorrow,” she quickly reminded me. “Your classes aren’t until the day after.”
Sheena loved her friends that to her were family. And she fervently wished them happiness with their own families.
She was devoted to Linda; and to her “grandchildren”—the beloved children of one of her former students.
She had much to give; and she gave generously to those of us lucky enough to have known her.
