Dr. Eugenio Tassy, a distinguished psychiatrist who dedicated his life to mental health care in New York, passed away on December 27, 2024, in Miami, Florida, after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 74 years old.

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Dr. Tassy attended the State University of Haiti Medical School, where he graduated at the top of his class in 1975. He completed his psychiatric residency at State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University College of Medicine.

Throughout his 45-year career, Dr. Tassy was known for his compassionate approach to mental health treatment and his tireless work to reduce substance abuse within his surrounding community. He built a thriving private practice in Long Island, New York, where he specialized in substance abuse treatment and became a leading voice in addiction psychiatry.

A devoted father of four, Dr. Tassy took immense pride in his children. His eldest daughter, Stephania Tassy, from his first marriage, and his three children with Guerda Tassy: Guersha, Vladimir, and David. His greatest joy was gathering his family for vacations and park outings, creating cherished memories with his loved ones. He had a deep passion for music, particularly Haitian music and jazz. He was an ardent fan of the legendary Haitian bands Skah Shah and Shleu Shleu, whose music often filled his home with joy and brought back fond memories of his homeland.

He is survived by his wife Guerda Tassy; his four children: Stephania, Guersha, Vladimir, and David Tassy. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched as a philanthropist, mentor, father, and friend.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025. The visitation will take place at Oyster Bay Funeral Home, 261 South Street, Oyster Bay, NY from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The final resting ceremony will follow at 11:00 AM at Queen of Peace Cemetery Chapel, 321 Jericho Turnpike, Old Westbury, NY. A repast will be held at 12:15 PM at Westbury Manor, 1100 Jericho Turnpike, Westbury, NY.
