Eileen & Joe posted a condolence
Our memories of Ray are of a generous, kind, intellegent man, who had a wonderful sense of humor. This past summer, my brother John, sister-in-law Joanne, Carol, and I spent the day doing geneology research. Carol and Ray invited us back to their home for a barbecue. We gladly went; Joe joined us; and we waited a few hours for Ray to come home. By this time, we were getting hungry and I was anticipating the hot dogs and burgers which we would soon be eating. Well, when Ray arrived, he had with him steaks, which he had bought at Bryant & Cooper Steak House! They were absolutely delicious! Ray also served us his best wine and brandy. We had a marvelous time that evening, sharing talk and laughter with Carol & Ray. That was typical of Ray; he always treated family and friends like they were special, but it was really him who was special. We loved him very much.

"What is sucess? To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people...;To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better...;To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; This is to have succeeded."
--Ralph Waldo Emerson

Just are we will gather to pay our loving respects to Carol, Christine, John and Joanie, Elizabeth & Katie, so did Ray, Carol and family gather us all to their home each summer. All their parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins, cousins once removed etc., to be with each other for the most looked forward to day of the summer, The Cook Family Party, where we could be together with both sides of Carol and Ray's families to catch up on the news and to be so wonderfully and graciously received by our host, hostess and their children and grandchildren. My family will always remember how my mother, Mary's sisters Rose and Loretta, not blood relatives, were always invited to the family party as part of the
extended family, whoever was with you at your home that day was also invited to come along to the Cook's. When I asked my granddaughter, Jessica, if she was coming to the party, she replied that if my cousin sent a letter, they would come. And come they did, as did we all.
We enjoyed the food and drinks, but most importantly them and each other. It is so hard to know that now it is time we have to say a very sad goodbye to a most wonderful husband, father,father-in-law, brother and friend and great man, and in my case and my families to our beloved cousin Carol's husband Ray. It is with much sadness and regret that our shining star is no longer here among us but most surely is in heaven just waiting to greet us there to enjoy again his company, his love and his laughter. Didn't he have the best laugh. God bless his family and I know that God will grant them the courage, strength and patience to wait for that day when they meet again and enjoy his arms around them in their circle of love and life everlasting.
Thank you so much Ray for being a part of our lives and inviting us to be a part of yours, you will live forever in our hearts.

We are so saddened to lose Ray, and we grieve for his family. He was a man with a heart full of loving kindness and generosity, the quiet, genial host of those fabulous pool parties. His life was a gift to all of us, and now he has gone ahead on the next stage of his journey. God bless you, dear friend, and may God comfort your family.

I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with ray and his family over the course of the last 2 years. In doing so I was privy to his warmth, extraordinary generosity, and his voracious appetite for life and family and friends. I admired him and witnessed the joy and kindness he lavished on everyone he met and as a result he had more friends and people that respected him than any 10 men. The most incredible quality though that I found was that despite the fact that he was an enormous success in work, family and life he maintained a humility that is the mark of a truly great man. It was a privilege to have known him and I am deeply sorry for the family-this is a loss of huge proportion.
