Levin Satchell was born January 27, 1913 to Isaiah F. Satchell, Sr. and Mary Matthews Satchell in North Hampton County, VA. He was the oldest of seven children, Louis Winston Satchell (Cheney), Celeste Satchell Cisco (Teen), Mary Josephine (Mary Jo), Isaiah Frederick Satchelll, Jr. (Pick), John Thomas Satchell (Tom) and Dorothy Satchell Blatts (Topsey). He was married to the late Estella Green for 21 years and out of this union came 2 children, Laura and Viola Satchell and 3 step children, Mary, Oscar and J.K. Green. Levin later married Ann Hammond and Frankie Roberts who both preceded him in death. He attended Oyster Bay High School and then in June 1942, was called to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II we he valiantly served his country and was awarded the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Levin was honorably discharged in Decmber 1945. Levin was a satnding member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for many years. He retired from the NYS Highway Maintenance and Repair and moved to Savannnah, GA. He joined Bethel A.M.E. Church where he was a member of the male singing group, The Sons of Allen, Men in Ministry. Levin was also a long time member of the Prayer Band and also worked as a clerk at the local pharmacy. Levin wad a kind and gentle man who was referred to as Satchell, Smoothie and PaPa. He loved to tell stories about his past experiences and often gave advice to anyone who needed it. On October 18, 2007, Levin answered the Masters call and entered into eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memories, 2 daughters, Laura and Viola, 1 step-son J.K. Green, 2 daughter in laws, Carol and Martha Green, 1 brother Isaiah Frederick Satchell, Jr., 1 sister Dorothy Batts, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren 12 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support, wherein they will be acknowledged at a later time. Burial was at Pine Hollow Cemetery, Oyster Bay on Thursday October 25, 2007.
