Ed Sives posted a condolence
Dear Barbara,
Altough I never had the pleasure of meeting Neal, I read many of his letters to his Uncle Sandy and was impressed by his grasp of politics and his wit and ability to convey his thoughts with clarity and humor.
Pat and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I cannot conceive the grief you are going through. May God give you strength and comfort at this time.
We have a 41 year old son and a 42 year old daughter and I cannot think of life without them. With sincere sympathy Pat and Ed Sives.

Jon and Shauna Fish posted a condolence
We only knew of Neal's parents, but wise men have always said you can tell offspring by their parentage. It was clear to us that Dawson and Barbara's children must surely be fine, fine people. When we heard of Neal's passing we were deeply saddened as parents shouldn't have to bury children. Our love and best wishes go to the Hunter family. This was a man who clearly left the world a better place than what he found it.

My condolences go out to all of Neal's family and friends.
After working with Neal at Home Depot for a few years, I found a good friend in him even after our working ties ended. He was the most ambitious and caring person I have ever met and he will be greatly missed.

I never had the chance to meet Neal face to face. However, we spent some time on the phone while I was working for him. I’d have to say that I was truly impressed by his mannerisms and “can do” attitude. I felt like I was working for a man who knew what he wanted and how he wanted it done. Although the encounter was brief, he left a profound impact. He will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of his audience.

Bryan Duggan posted a condolence
Valhalla welcomes a splendid man to her great halls:
Neal was of the inspiring generation before me of Explorer Post One. I remember fondly, of listening to Neal and Dawson's adventures to Mt Denali and Mt Rainier in the early 1980's. Their courage and strength were captivating; Neal's passion, knowledge, and confidence were like golden nuggets to the impressionable young boy that I was. These were the people I elevated to a higher rank to commend and emulate, to guide and lead.
I learned too late of Neal's fight with cancer to re connect with him. I recall the last time I talked with him as he was traveling between Seattle and Las Vegas, our plans to meet in Eugene, Oregon never materialized. I regret this missed opportunity now; however, I will continue to remember Neal, and I give thanks that our lives have touched.
I also wish to give of the infinite love I have, to my dear friends and distant family, the Hunters; I am sorry for your loss, and I am forever at your service. Take heart, for as you know, your son, brother, and friend truly was a majestic man. May spirit protect and give greatly to the Hunters on this sad occasion.
All our Love and All our Respect, Your Loving Friends:
Bryan, Bittin, Naia and Sinead Duggan

Neal,
You are THE MAN. If there was a problem, you could solve it. If something was broke, you could fix it. If someone had a question, you would answer it. We worked on many west coast Home Depot projects through the years and you never failed to amaze me. All I can say is that there must have been one hell of a controls problem up in heaven for God to call on you. You are most likely the only one that could fix it. I know that you have your most trusty tool with you at all times, your mind. You are one of the smartest people that I have ever known. I'll miss talking to you about technical things, business things, and what we will do when we retire. I know if I have any more questions that you will still be there for me, I won't forget you.

MY LETTER TO NEAL
Part of me is upset at the thought that had you found out sooner, I may not be writing this letter
Part of me is hurt that you felt you couldn’t tell me
Part of me is confused and wondering why you and why now
Although I am grateful that you are no longer in pain, all of me misses you
When I met you, you were the vendor to bow down to - “The Great and Knowledgeable NEAL”, you quickly became family. I’d be lying if I said I understood everything you were talking about. There was many a time when my eyes would glaze over as you explained things to me. You didn’t have to use lay-man’s terms, you had to break it down into Tai terms. I appreciate that.
I will miss the knowledge you continually fed me
I will miss the exciting stories you had to tell
I will miss the random and crazy pictures you always managed to find
I already miss our bi-weekly chats.
You were a great resource and always will be an EXTRA wonderful friend!!!!
And to my friend I say, Goodnight

I was shocked to hear about Neals passing. I worked with Neal at Automated building controls. He was a great person to work with. High work ethics. There where numerous times he would come to work with his Kayak straped on top of his car. I would ask him where are you headed today and he would reply "I'm Kayaking along the Hutson River". He was an adventurous guy. We kept in contact while living in NV, since we where in the same field we would talk about all the diffrent promblems he worked on at Home Depot.I will always remember him. My heart goes out to his family.

I met Neal working with The Home Depot. He was a super guy. We used to talk about the long road trips from Nevada to Atlanta. We used to talk over the phone quite a bit also. He was such a smart person. His passing was such a shock, it was not so long ago that he was in Atlanta. He will be missed. You all are in my prayers. Be so very proud of him. God Bless you all

As Bob travels to send you on your way, I sit, thinking on our visit with you, last October to beautiful Laughlin (the other Las Vegas.)
We had a blast !
I shall hold dear to me those days, sitting in the sun on your back porch, watching the humming birds, begging for a sip of sweet nectar from the parched dessert flowers.
Cat Stevens and Billy Joel loud from the Hi-Fi and all three of us laughing, just enjoying each others presence.
The crazy fast boat ride, with tears flying into our ears, because we were going SO fast !!! Laughing all the way !
Our secret pow wow late at night, about a great big giant project and could we do it ? We said: YES! (pass the samores) AND
We did it and what a wonderful leader we had in you dear Neal.
You gave to Bob and I, all that you had,as you did with everything.
Your kindness, empathy, thoughtfulness and generosity never faltered, never. We also loved your dry wit and tremendous brain power !!BUT the best present you gave us, was the blessing of your presence in our lives.
I bow my head, with this prayer for you,
My the long time sun shine upon you,may all love surround and my the light with in you guide your way on.

My name is Terry Kearns, and I worked or Home Depot energy. I just wanted to let Neal's family know that their son/brother was a good, kind-hearted man. He cared about his craft, cared about the people around him, and was one of the hardest working people I have ever known. Seriously, his work ethic was second to none. Neal's passing really knocked me off balance. I considered him a friend, and he will be missed. Sincerely,
Terry Kearns (Smyrna, Ga)

Dearest Neal,
You have ALWAYS been my best friend and I'm sorry to loose you.
We met around 1986 and didn't date until 1991.
You've always made me laugh and gave me such inspiration in life.
I will always remember the special times that we shared.
I remember when we drove out to Long Island, NY and sat untop of a roof and I was able to see your childhood place some place out east, even though I never saw the pictures.
The time that we went to the Planaterium in NYC and afterwards how you spoke visually of what we both experienced.
I'll never forget the time that you were sitting in my living room in Valley Stream, NY and I heard your heart beat loudly, even though I was in another room. I came out and you had such a wonderful look on your face. I said that I know something that you didn't want to tell me. It was then we both realized that we were in love with each other.
Through the years, you were always there for me, although the physical distance was long, our emotional and spiritual distance was close.
I'm so blessed that you have been such an important person in my life.
I'm glad that I was able to do service by reading to you "The New York Times" and let you know about my life, with work and school.
Thank you for holding my hands the last night that I saw you and for moving your body closer to me.
I know that you're in a happier place and that God will ALWYAYS KEEP YOU CLOSE TO HIM.
I miss you terribly and I'll always love you.
Ellen

Neal was a good man. I knew him for a short while in Laughlin. I was so saddened to learn of his death. Unfortunately, shortly after Neal's death, my husband passed away. It was through a spiritualist church in NY a couple years later that I connected not only with my husband but Neal as well. They both came through to me via a medium from the church. I now truly believe in an afterlife and know that some day we will all reconnect with our loved ones in Heaven.
