Santo Assenzio was my Uncle. We always called him Uncle Sonny. My Uncle Sonny always made me smile, he always made me laugh, he always made me happy. When we were kids growing up on my Grandfather's farm in upstate NY, we looked forward to visits from Aunt Babe (Anna), Uncle Sonny and my cousins, Mary Ann, Andrea and Tommy. Uncle Sonny would load up all the kids and take us on a wild ride for ice cream. He drove the back roads fast and took the corners hard, sending us crashing into each other and howling with laughter. I should note that this was before the age of child seats and seat belts. It was the highlight of every visit. If there is a heaven, I know he is up there. God has no doubt rewarded him with a fast old Ford. I'm sure he is gathering up all the young children he can find, racing through the clouds to find the best ice cream imaginable. He is making them smile, he is making them laugh, he is making them very happy.
