Obituary of Elaine M. Tuthill

Elaine Marie Schaller, the youngest daughter of Harold and Anna Schaller, was born on 1948 in Rockville Center, New York. She has two sisters Marilyn Mangles and Karen Hampton. Elaine attended Nassau Lutheran where her cousin (Billy Koch) was her teacher. She graduated from Green Mountain College in Vermont and moved into New York City and was the accessories buyer for Lord and Taylor. Elaine met Halsey on long Island where she summered and he was raised. Halsey and Elaine married on May 27th, 1972 at her parents home in Armonk, NY. In 1976 they moved to Carmel, they had two daughters Carrie (1977) and Kelly (1979).She is also survived by two son-in-laws Shane Saunders and Ciaran Cioffi. In 1986 she went to work with Halsey at Peacock Memorials; where they worked together everyday for the last 24 years. Elaine was an avid runner she completed a half marathon in the Adirondacks and multiple 10k's in Shelter Island, Baltimore, Sound to Bay and most recently ran with her family in the Susan G Komen in Washington DC, June of this year. Elaine was an amazing shopper her house is filled to the brim with all her finds. She was a very creative person she made her children clothes, as well as beautiful quilts and country crafts. Elaine loved summering in Gardeners Bay Estates in East Marion ,NY. She loved going to the beach and spending time on the boat. She enjoyed going to yard sales and used her finds to decorate their summer house. She took great pride in organizing family events and loved to memorialize special occasions.
