I remember ‘Harvey’ from the ENFC during the mid ‘70s. He was larger than life, a mighty fine ballplayer, quick witted, funny, and always willing to lend a helping hand. I remember during parties at the firehouse, how he danced with his wife Cecilia, easily gliding around the dance floor as one, whether it was the polka, a waltz or foxtrot. When I moved to the west coast, Cecilia and I stayed in touch exchanging news in Christmas cards. In 2012, during a trip back to East Norwich, Rose Simons Caspar and I visited Harvey. It was a special treat to talk and laugh with him like old times. My sincerest condolences to his daughters and grandchildren.

So many fond memories of Uncle Harvey from our frequent childhood summer visits (from Alabama) to New York and our never long enough visits as adults. All of the family cookouts, fire department competitions (with those burgundy colors), golfing, and that magical gift of storytelling are forever etched in our minds. Uncle Harvey has always been a hero to all of us - from baseball stories of knowing Whitey Ford, shaking Babe Ruth’s hand, NY Islanders at the Fire House, but always wanting to know how our families are doing. He was so sweet to our Aunt Ceil, proud of Cecelia and Marianne and always beamed when he talked about Shannon.
We send heartfelt condolences, prayers and love from Alabama.
