Glinda Ellsworth posted a condolence
My thoughts and prayers are with You Mary and all of your family. I know your faith and all of your many friends will help you through this. I didn't get to know your dad as well as I wished I could have, but enough to know he was a very sweet and kind man.
I would give just about anything if I could come and be at your side through the rough days ahead, but I will have to trust others to do that and I know there will be plenty of family and friends to walk with you.
You know your family to me and I love you so much and when your hurting, I hurt.
So just know I am there in spirit and if there is anything, anything I can do................ I will.
Love....Glinda

The Royce's in VA send our deepest sympathy and prayers. Although my heart is saddened it is also filled with laughter and joy as my memories of Mr & Mrs Kiernan are nothing but special. Little league baseball car trips, Beekman beach outings, little league basketball, Dom's sports. He never told a story or gave a life lesson without leaving you laughing. What a great man to have as husband, father, grandfather and friend. God Bless & Love to all, Dan & Stella Royce

I really have many fond memories of Mr. Kiernan (I didn't dare call him Big Jack to his face, only his oldest friends could do that!). One of my fondest memories of him occurred on a day he was doing his son Gerard and I a huge favor by driving us to a job delivering wood.. while Gerard and I were moving the wood he said to me: Dave, you're pretty strong, do you think you can lift me?? I said no problem Mr. Kiernan -so I got my arms around him and leaned back to hoist him in the air and my hands slipped off and I fell right on my rear with a thud! He roared at that and with tears of laughter in his eyes he reached down with one hand and lifted me off the ground without even the slightest effort and said to me "keep eating and lifting that wood, one day you'll be as strong as me". Well I doubt I ever got to be anywhere near as strong as John Kiernan, but I will never forget that day or many others that he shared his kind and easy manner with me. To those who had the honor of knowing him, he will be sorely missed. God speed Mr. Kiernan!!!

Only recently did I get to know this very sweet and wonderful man. A few times I drove him to the beach where we drank coffee and he would reminisce and tell me stories of the children that he loved so much. He also spoke of his of many funny memories of his youth and the first time he saw and spoke to his beautiful wife. He told me much about the Town of Oyster Bay. It was a pleasure to share in his memories and I'm glad I got to know my very good friend Mary's dad. God Bless Jack and his family.

During my high school days, I spent many hours at the Kiernan home. Mr. Kiernan was one of the nicest dad's I've had the pleasure of knowing. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Mrs. Kiernan, John, Mary, Ro and Gerard. Mr. Kiernan will be greatly missed.

I did not know John, but he must have been doing something right to produce such a strong and delightful person as his daughter Mary KT. My condolences to his family and community. And recognition in the service he provided to this country to help preserve what freedoms we enjoy today.
