To the Entire Gugerty Family,
My condolences on your loss but also my gratitude for having had the pleasure and opportunity to have been touched in my life by your Father/Husband. Our Baltimore and Johns Hopkins connection was a fun one to share with him. I can remember like it was yesterday, the day he grabbed me in the St. Gertrudes parking lot and promised me I would learn to play lacrosse at Hopkins and would love it. He was a fortune teller as I did and do, so much so that my son is off to college next year to play it as well. I do often think about the flamne of an idea that Leo Gugerty lit in me that day and of all the days he was encouraging and fun and supportive during those idyllic days in LV. David thanks for sharing your Dad with me!

Dear Aunt Helen, Lee and Linda, Merrill, Brian and Kathy, David and Kathy, Paul and Lisa, and grandchildren,
It was wonderful being with all of you to celebrate Uncle Leo's life! What a wonderful tribute, the love that filled the funeral home, the mass/ homily, David's Eulogy, and many other touching moments...
We each have special memories of Leo, some of mine are the times he and Helen and the boys would come to Baltimore for family gatherings, be it Christmas, St. Patrick's Day or a wedding... and after dinner we'd end up around the piano while Nana (Leo's mother) played all the old Irish favorites, Irish Eyes, MacNamara's Band, etc. and we'd all be singing! Those were grand days for the Irish!!
Now we will cherish our memories, try to follow the example Leo, Mary, Tom and Bernie set and look forward to the day we meet again....I hope there's a piano in heaven!!!
Love, Rosemary, Al, Abigail and Theresa

I will always remember Leo for his enthusiam for Baltimore and Johns Hopkins. He loved the Orioles, and he was really proud of his alma mater. I loved working with both Leo and Helen, because they were both so dependable, and their love for JHU was contagious. I will miss him.

I was told by a friend that Mr. Gugerty has passed. I worked for him at the Plainview store from early 1969 to about September of 1971. He was a good friend and made a young man from the
South feel at home on Long Island. At the time the group was comprised of John Clancy, Ken Moore, Ken Pedrick and myself. Please accept my condolences as you mourn his passing. Don

It was always a great time and such a treat when Uncle Leo and Aunt Helen would come to Baltimopre with their family for a family visit. Two of my favorites were the time they surprised us at 2am in the morning after visiting the memorial to JFK in 1962. The other favorite was Uncle Leo taking us out for crabs and beer in Dundlak after K&D's wedding Aug 3, 1969. Uncle Leo leaves a legacy of a husband , father and Uncle committed to his Family and committed to Family Life. May Uncle Leo's legacy of love for family continue to enrich us all as we strive to live out our lives from the example Uncle Leo set for us!!! I know Uncle Leo is happier than ever re-united with his family in his new life in heaven--especially knowing Ain't the Beer Cold!!!

Leo,
A true gentleman, who reached out to all. As an usher at St. Pauls, Leo was the first person to welcome our family when we came for our first Mass on Fathers day. He always remembered us and enquired about us. He got me involved in the Knights of Columbus.
Everytime we met he was discussing of the next book he read.
God bless his dear Soul, and grant him eternal rest. He will be in my prayers each time I enter St.Paul's for Mass.

When Uncle Leo came to visit Nana in Baltimore, it was such a treat for all. He was a fun and loving uncle who was complimented by such a lovely and special wife, Aunt Helen and very friendly and well mannered sons. Together, they sincerely showed their love for all their nieces and nephews. Leo always wanted to make good times happen with great stories and memorable events. When Uncle Leo and Aunt Helen came to visit our family in Columbus, he shared his love for the time their family spent here by giving us a tour of his old neighborhood and talking endlessly about his favorite places and people he knew while working here, decades ago. This was just another example of how he cherised life wherever he was and with whomever he was with. He will be remembered as a great, Irish uncle whom we all loved and will miss. Thank you Dear Lord for sharing Leo with us.

I met Mr.Gugerty more than 35 years ago in a JCPenney store than in Plainview NY. He was then and continued to be a cornerstone of merchandising in the New York Metropolitan area for the JCPenney company. In 1990 "Leo" was selected to be the first store manager to operate successfully a JCPenney store in the New York City borough of Queens. This was a major accomplishment.
Saint Patrick's day Leo Gugerty always made special. I remember being impressed on one March 17th when he purchased 30 green and white butter cream cakes and passed them around the store in honor of the day.
Finally I will remember Mr. Gugerty for his tenacity
and his ability of instilling hope when it was most needed.

Dear Helen and Family, It is extremely difficult for me to express t you my great sense of sorrow and heart felt sympathy on Leo's death. I know each of you have a very intense feeling in your broken hearts for him, but remember, Leo is now in heaven with God and the Blessed Mother, (whom he had great devotion too). He has gone home for his eternal reward, "home" where he suffers no more. Leo's love of life, his pride in his national heritage and his sparkling sense of humor will always be in our hearts and minds. My dear Brother has only left us physically. I loved him very much and he will always be a part of me. A little Irish Prayer: God bless you now and always With the gift of Irish cheer god give to you a happy heart And keep you through the year. I was 18 and still remember the night that I was visiting in Ohio and Uncle Leo insisted that I must go to college. He called my Mother and offered to pay for me to go on with my education. He wss a special Uncle and I will always remember his love for me and all the family. I want to add that he was such a fun person to be with especially when he would come to Baltimore and take us out for Crabs. There is so much more he gave to us that we will never forget his spirit and enthusiasm for living. We will sing your Oriole Song on Opening Day and always remember you singing with the family. Love to Helen and all the family.

Dear Helen, Lee, Linda, Merrill, Brian, Kathy, Dave, Helene, Paul, Lisa and Grandchildren,
How do you sum up in a few words someone who was so much larger than life!!! Leo or Pepe as we affectionately called him was a man who loved his family, sports, St. Patrick's Day, JC Penney and being generous! We have countless happy memories of time spent with Leo and his family, at Lattingtown Beach, St. Patty's Day on 5th Ave. and at St. Gertrudes, 4th of July in Bayville, our afternoon at Jensen Beach, 50 cent tours of Long Island and Manhattan, big bowls of ice cream, family weddings, the opening of his Queens store, and Oriole games.
Most importantly I remember that Leo was ALWAYS there!!! Usually with Helen, his 5 sons and their families too.
The good news is Leo will continue to ALWAYS be at future events, although it will be in spirit, a man as, charismatic, loving and devoted as Leo was will never be forgotten!!!
Our thoughts and prayers will be with you in the coming days, weeks and months as you grieve the loss of your husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather!!!
We will miss Leo more than words can express!!! Lots of LOVE to all of you!!!

Uncle Leo will always be remembered for his wonderful stories, his deep love of family, his loyalty to the Orioles and being a grand-looking Irish patriarch. He treated everyone as being unique and important. Now the three brothers are together in heaven smiling down on all of us as we soon celebrate their beloved holiday...The Feast of Saint Patrick. God blessed us with Uncle Leo and now he will be blessing us.

JOSH GROBAN - "To Where You Are"
Who can say for certain
Maybe you're still here
I feel you all around me
Your memories so clear
Deep in the stillness
I can hear you speak
You're still an inspiration
Can it be (?)
That you are mine
Forever loved
And you are watching over me from up above
Fly me up to where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile to know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are
Are you gently sleeping
Here inside my dream
And isn't faith believing
All power can't be seen
As my heart holds you
Just one beat away
I cherish all you gave me everyday
'Cause you are mine
Forever love
Watching me from up above
And I believe
That angels breathe
And that love will live on and never leave
Fly me up
To where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile
To know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are
I know you're there
A breath away's not far
To where you are
